José Manuel is an adolescent from the indigenous Tzeltal community of Tzajalá, Chiapas, who joined our community of youth at our church in 2019. He attends another church with his family, but through the activities of our ministries, he has become an integral and passionate member of our faith community. José Manuel always has a positive attitude and a willingness to serve. He helps with cleaning and organizing the space, and supporting the leaders of our Sunday School program every week, his passion and his example impacting us deeply. For this reason, we intend to give José Manuel the opportunity to continue developing his potential and preparation as a servant leader in the community. There are other young people that we have seen in Tzajalá with so much potential: young men and women ready to be inspired to serve the children of our community. We are convinced that our youth are capable of developing their potential and contributing to community-wide transformation, just like José Manuel, and we want to be those mentors, those leaders, and those friends who walk alongside them.
Our vision is to empower young leaders to passionately serve children and the community, motivated by the love of God and a sense of belonging. We believe that the best way to achieve this vision is by providing holistic leadership development rooted in the Christian faith to empower and equip young people from Tzajalá. We will help develop their social, emotional, spiritual, academic, and physical health, with the end goal of forming servant-hearted leaders who inspire future generations.
We seek to create a safe and educational space where the youth of Chiapas can feel understood, loved, and heard. We seek to equip and empower young leaders through training, activities, and mentoring, while preserving the cultural richness of our Tzeltal community. Ultimately, we want our young people to know that God is the most important aspect in our lives. Fundacion Jovenes Empoderados, in collaboration with the local church, will prepare the youth of Tzajalá for leadership, so they can serve in children Sunday schools, and seek other opportunities to serve the community as servant leaders.
